Staying at Hotel de Paris
Hotel de Paris has stood on the Place du Casino since the nineteenth century, when Monaco’s hillside resort was still inventing itself. The façade is the one travellers picture when they say Monte-Carlo: pale stone, balconies, and the square’s daily theatre of arrivals. Inside, corridors still feel ceremonial, and the better rooms and suites look either onto the square or out toward the harbour, so mornings begin with either opera-house bustle or water light.
Breakfast and the public salons do more to set the stay than the gaming halls below street level, which remain easy to walk past without entering. A short stroll reaches the harbour promenade and the cliff-edge paths above the Mediterranean; evenings draw guests into the restaurants that share the square. Guests after calm simply keep to the upper floors; the licensed halls occupy their own world downstairs.
